Choosing domain names
Choosing a domain for your website can be a very time consuming and frustrating process. Finding a domain name that is relevant to your business is getting harder and harder, the amount of domain names available to purchase is shrinking at the rate of roughly 23,000 a day. All this may sound a bit daunting, so below we have created a few pointers to try and help you get the best domain name.
When looking for a domain name don’t get caught thinking that it has to have your keywords in, as your more than likely end up with a domain name that isn’t too easy remember and is hard to spell. Two attributes you definitely don’t want your domain name to have.
Let’s say your company is selling mobile phones. So ideally you would want mobilephones.com? Bad luck, that domain name is most definitely taken. There’s no hope with mobilephones.net or mobilephones.org either, the chances of these domain names ever being available are virtually 0. Nearly all the domains containing common keywords are taken, so what am I going to do I hear you say? Well don’t worry, having a domain name which contains your company name in like google.com or yahoo.com, will serve you just as well if not better in the long run then compared to having a domain name with your keywords in.
A lot of companies now have multiple domain names linking into their website. For instance they will have their brand name e.g. www.apple.co.uk as their main domain name, but then also have other domain names containing keywords linking to their site. This will help the site rank better with the search engines and also increase the keywords they can get found on.
